Oh you know...a little of this, some of that.

So since I last posted...I went to Colorado for a Rogers family reunion.
Regretfully, I didn't take very many pictures. I don't know why I always do that. I'll take my camera when I go somewhere cool, but then forget to take lots of pictures.
Anyways, here are the ones I got.
a waterfall

This is the same waterfall but I zoomed out and got the river in which we were fishing. This is also where I was attacked by fire ants.

Some mountains in the distance

Some of my cousins.

It was an awesome trip. Colorado is beautiful and I also got to see lots of people I haven't seen in 3-4 years.

Currently I am working with a nutritionist and losing some weight. I only wish I could have lost a little bit more so I could have impressed everyone at the reunion...oh well. School starts in a little over a month. I've got my registration date, but its July 22, so I have not been able to sign up for classes yet. However, I have been thinking about what to take and I think I am gonna take a pretty full load. Possibly 6 classes, maybe more...we'll see.

Other than that...dang, I dunno, I've been reading alot I guess. But there's plenty more crap I have that still needs to be looked at.

I thought I'd wait a couple days and see if she posted first, but since she didn't I guess I'll go ahead and let everyone know.
Christine and I broke up. Honestly I don't really know why...I mean I have some ideas, but if this is anything like the last time I got dumped I'll probably never find out, or it will take me a while to figure it out on my own.
Anyways, so as to not come away from this sounding like a hurt depressed little emo kid, unless I already have, that's all I'm going to say. We are no longer together, and I apologize to all those from the old Green Day board who I had promised to invite to the wedding.

an update

so, what's going on in my world?
School - Just got through midterms. I am feeling real confident about my Political Science class. The midterm today was the first major assignment for the class, there haven't been any quizzes or anything. I've been taking really good notes and everything, so I feel real good about that class.
Sociology though, I'm not so sure. I know I got a C on the first quiz, and I don't think I got better than a C on the midterm and probably worse. I dunno...I studied, I just think that class is totally boring so maybe my disinterest in the subject makes me do worse...I don't know. I may just drop that class and try again next semester when I am more focused.
Things are still kinda up in the air in my life. I started looking for another job, but now all the sudden I'm taking an unexpected trip to Texas with my dad for spring break/Easter. So I suppose I'll resume my job search when I return. This trip should be good for me though. I'm thinking its just gonna be me, my dad, and my grandma down there the whole time. I doubt I'll have decent internet access, so I plan on doing a lot of reading and hopefully some decent writing in too. If I finish anything decent, I'll post it up here and see what you all think. I'm also going to be taking my digital camera and video camera...so when I get back I'll post pictures and maybe some of the video if I get anything good.
Its probably gonna suck for a while once I get back though...money is starting to get kinda tight, so I may have to see if my parents will let me borrow some money if I don't find a job pretty soon after I get back.
Anyways, that's what's going on with me.

movie thing

1. Pick 15 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDB and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDB search or other search functions.

<s>1. "I have here a very old letter, written to a Mrs. Bixby in Boston. (reading)'Dear Madam: I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant-General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom. Yours very sincerely and respectfully, Abraham Lincoln.' That boy is alive. We are gonna send somebody to find him. And we are gonna get him the Hell... outta there."</s>

2. "Darling, we haven't had a hit documentary in 9 years. Let's not fuck with Larry Amin."

<s>3. "Mr. Hammond, the phones are working."</s>

4. "Oh, yes, a big cat! My salvation depends upon it!"

5. "He's not going to say fuck stick in front of the children, is he?"

6. "Tony, you've killed for us in the past, and we've always been satisfied, which is why it's very hard for me to come down here today. One of my men was killed today in your territory, and the chinks tell me the killer was of the... Italian persuasion. Now, wait, there's more. You'll love this. Not two hours later, a little twelve-year-old girl comes to my building, armed to the teeth with the sole intention of sending me straight to the morgue. And guess who comes to get her? The very same Italian hit man."

7. "And I'm caught right in the middle - torn between my loyalty to the boss and my desire to piss with the lights on."

8. "God damn it, that's not all! Because if one of those things gets down here then that will be all! Then all this - this bullshit that you think is so important, you can just kiss all that goodbye!"

<s>9. "No I will not make out with you. Did ya hear that? This girl wants to make out with me in the middle of class. You got Chlorophyll Man up there talking about God knows what and all she can talk about is making out with me. I'm here to learn, everybody, not to make out with you. Go on with the chlorophyll."</s>

10. "It's true, you are a good woman. Then again, you may be the antichrist."

11. "Boy, you got rights... and lefts. Ups and downs and middles. So what? You don't get to instruct anything around here! This is not North Carolina, not South Carolina, nor Kentucky! This is the sovereign state of Mississippi's proceedings. Wipe that smirk off your face! Dr. Wigand's deposition will be part of this record! And I'm gonna take my witness' testimony whether the hell you like it or not!"

12. "I don't know, Jim. There's obviously something wrong with him. He's taken off his shoes and one of his socks and... actually, I think he's crying."

13. "I've hired you to help me start a war. It's a prestigious line of work, with a long and glorious tradition."

14. "Her name is not Sticks! She's Elora Dannen, the future empress of Tir Asleen and the last thing she's gonna want is a hairy chest!"

<s>15. "Okay guys, one more thing, this summer when you're being inundated with all this American bicentennial Fourth Of July brouhaha, don't forget what you're celebrating, and that's the fact that a bunch of slave-owning, aristocratic, white males didn't want to pay their taxes! Have a good summer!"</s>

Epiphany

Epiphany
...
...
3 a (1): a usually sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature or meaning of something (2): an intuitive grasp of reality through something (as an event) usually simple and striking (3): an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure

I had one tonight. Tonight is exactly what I needed. Spent the evening with family and came home and finished my vmix shift...had a few whiskey and cokes, smoked a bit of weed, and finally around 12:40 or so...even though I wasn't really tired, I decided to turn my lights off and get in bed. I turned my music off and turned the radio to Coast to Coast and left it at a reasonable level. I laid there trying to get in a comfortable position to stabilize my neck which I tweaked the night before in my sleep. As I let the dark room wash over me I began to think about my life...the past few months, the troubles I had been having and now the new direction things seem to be going in. See...well, let me explain.
I had been employed by Barnes and Noble for almost 4 years. It was a good job...a great job. I love books and I loved the people I worked with and even though I love to complain, the bad customers were outnumbered by the good ones and the good experiences I had there. I started off back in 2004 in desperate need of a job and they took me on as a part time employee. After working there for a while and proving my worth I began to show interest in expanding to other areas of the store other than just shelving and cashiering. So I started to help out the receiver in the back, and wound up working back there a few nights a week. Then he left and the new receiver was Martin...we'd become great friends and I still helped him out back there and would fill in for him on days when he was sick or on vacation. Then I was offered a position as a lead bookseller working in the magazine department.
I was real nervous at first, but decided to go for it. I would be working full time and there was a raise in pay as well. It was shortly before this time that I had met Kyla and she introduced me to vmix and eventually I took on a part time position there. So I was working vmix on the weekends and also had a full time job. So I moved out of my house and into an apartment with my roomate and good friend, Robert.
So I had been working the magazine position about a year when things started to change in the company. People wearing suits in the corporate office started making RETARDED decisions about how to run the individual stores. Work became a hassle because it seemed like I was being given more work to do and less time to do it in, meanwhile being stripped of important responsibilities and started feeling more like a salesman selling memberships rather than someone who knows alot about books or magazines.
So work was really starting to suck, and honestly probably starting in summer things between me and Christine were going downhill. So my personal life really started to affect my work performance. I began showing up late alot and calling in sick on days I really wasn't. Then one day my mom tells me about a trip her company was taking to Hawaii and that if I wanted to go it would be all expenses paid. This is back in September/October so once I decided I wanted to go I went to the manager Michelle and she told me it was ok. Even though the trip was in December busy holiday season, I could still go because I let her know early enough and they could hire some extra part time help to fill in.
Great, so things started looking up a little. I was excited about the trip and possibly seeing Christine at Christmas so maybe work would get better. Then it happened. Out manager Michelle left the company and we got a new manager, Nikki. She used to be the assistant manager when I first worked at that store, and actually she's the one who decided to hire me back in 2004...so even though she's really kind of a bitch and people were not looking forward to her coming back, I thought it would be ok and that I sort of owe her since she hired me way back then.
But things did not get better. I was not in charge of the magazines anymore, and in fact I wasn't even considered a "lead" anymore, yet there were still certain things at work I had to do which I felt weren't my business. Then one day I mentioned to Nikki about needing some time off for my trip and she told me I couldn't go. I was really ticked off and at first said ok I won't go. But then that wasn't too good because my position on the trip had already been paid for. So I talked with Nikki and tried to find what my options were. She was pretty firm about not letting me take the time off, so basically my options were to either stay with B&N and not go on the trip, or quit and go on the trip and then eventually come back and look for a different job when i got home.
So I told Nikki I needed a day ro so to think about it so I went home and thought alot. I really wanted to go on the trip, but also wanted to remain employed. However I was really tired of B&N and even some of the people there were starting to bug me. So all in all I decided I would just quit, and go on this trip and have a nice break.
Then something else happened, which I won't mention, but it really sideswiped me. That issue has since been resolved...but at the time I just wanted to get away. Originally I was going to go to Hawaii and come back and try to get a job right away. But this caused me to change my mind about that...I was going to go to Hawaii and then come back here and just veg out for a while. How long? I don't know...
So I went to hawaii and came back looking forward to the holidays. I had enrolled to take some classes at the community college I went to a couple years ago. After the holidays and lots of rest I began to look at my financial situation. Even though I had quit B&N on December 6 I had taken on alot of extra vmix shifts over the holidays and earned quite a bit of money. But since I had terminated my employment with B&N I no longer had cheap medical coverage...there was the option to still retain coverage but just pay ALOT more for it each month. So that's what I decided to do, and I actually have yet to send the first payment off...don't worry, its not due until Feb 10. I also recently cashed in my 401k plan I had with B&N which I got about $1900 so that was a good boost to my coffers.
So I took in everything and looked at it and figured I could survive without a job for about 3-4 months. Cool! So yeah, basically since I got back from Hawaii...I haven't done squat. I've had enough money to sustain all my bills but have also learned to start being very frugal. I'm still getting extra shifts at vmix, so money is still not an issue as long as I am not wasting it on crap.
Part of my reason for signing back up in school is that I wanted to pursue an actual career...not just work retail all my life. So...quitting B&N really allowed me to start thinking about what I really wanted to do
with my life. I met with a counselor at the school and he advised me on some classes to retake to get my gpa up and I picked a computer programming major. In all my time of doing nothing...I started reading alot and becoming interested again in computer programming and web development. I bought some books on the C language and have been messing with that, in preparation for programming classes later on. I plan on learning C and eventually moving on to C#, C++, Perl, PHP, Java, etc in my spare time. All the while going to school to learn the same stuff and eventually get a degree and then start looking for a real job.
So then tonight I start thinking...all this free time is great and everything...but honestly, I get pretty fucking bored sometimes. And boredom often leads to me going out and spending money on something I don't need like a movie, or computer stuff, or whatever...and that's not good with my current financial situation.
Yeah school is going to take up some of that...I only signed up for two classes, so I'll still have alot. And I know that EVENTUALLY I have to get a job...but its not imperitive at the moment.
Then I had a revelation...WHY did I leave B&N? Yes, in a way I was given an ultimatum...but did I REALLY hate the job that much? The answer is no...I just needed a break. Before starting to slack off there I had been working alot of hours and yeah work was overwhelming some days. So I started thinking tonight...what if I went back and tried to get my job back? That would be cool...I'd still work vmix, be in school, and still work about 20 hours a week maybe, get my health coverage back and make enough money to pay my rent and stuff.
However...I realize that the circumstances over my leaving were not exactly the best in existance. Yes, I left angry. I was angry at my manager for not letting me take time to go on that trip BUT...I don't think I burnt any bridges. I think I am still on good terms with anyone who is left at the store. One manager in particular, Steven, we're really good friends and have had drinks together and I've even been to a couple parties with people from work involved.
So here's my idea...I meet with Steven and just talk to him about how things have been going. I tell him that things have been really good with me...how this break has been really good and I feel really good about my life. Which is 100% true...my relationship with my family is good, my relationship with Christine is good and she'll be coming here to visit in May. I'm excited about school and the time off gave me an opportunity to get really interested in an education/career path over the next few years. But now its time to be realistic and realize I can't keep on doing nothing and still expect to be able to pay rent.
So I tell him how great I've been doing and then ask him if it would be worth my while to talk to Nikki about any positions available or if I should just fill out an application. I would let him and/or Nikki know that I'm not looking for any special favors, I just want to make sure that my application would have a fair chance at being looked at like anyone else's. I want to make sure nobody feels badly about me and would resent hiring me back on part time. And if everything seems cool, I really wouldn't mind going back to work for B&N. I'd still be working at vmix and going to school, so its not like I would have to work 5 days a week.
And if not, I spend a couple more weeks being lazy, and then get serious about finding a job somewhere else.

If you read all of that...what do you think? Do you think its worth it for me to try and go back to work for B&N part time while I go to school?

Because we never really know each other as well as we think, in response to this post I'd like you to ask a question. Anything about which you are curious, anything you feel you ought to know about me. Silly, serious, personal, fannish. Ask away. Then, if you want, copy this to your own journal, and see what people don't know about you.

So the holidays were actually a huge disappointment...a theme which seems to be making itself more prevalent in my life these days. Everything in my life in the last 2 months has completely turned around. But then there are some positive things coming up...school being one of them. I only signed up for 2 classes this upcoming semester, but I am actually really excited about them. And if I can stick to my guns and do well, I plan on taking a full load in the fall.
Since I got back from Hawaii, I pretty much haven't done anything. I'm not working at B&N anymore, and its actually really cool. I've been picking up alot of extra shifts at Vmix for extra money, and I don't really plan on looking for a new part time job until late in February or March. So needless to say I've had alot of free time on my hands, which has its ups and downs. I have been reading alot and listening to lots of good music...but then other times I just feel so bored and sometimes depressed.
I spent yesterday reading Matt's new zine, which he sent to me by mail. Very cool stuff - if you didn't get one, hit him up and maybe he can send one to you if he has any left.
I really don't have much else to say, I'll probably go to bed soon. Yay for the Chargers winning today, that was some game.
Keep in touch folks.

HAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So its almost Christmas time.
My birthday came and went...here's what I got.
$100 in checks
$50 gift card to Regal Cinemas
Law and Order: SVU season 1 DVD set
The Addams Family and Addams Family Values DVD set
Sin City DVD
PC USB 2.0 card
750 GB External Hard Drive

What's everyone up to? I'm working vmix tomorrow and Christmas Day, but I get time and a half for Christmas Day. Actually I'm working vmix for Kylah the whole time she's out of town, which is until Jan 1 or 2 I think. I'm also house sitting for her and her husband and watching all their animals (4 cats and a dog). I'm kinda creeped out because the house isn't in the best of neighborhoods...and I'm worried that when I'm not actually there, someone might try to break in or something. Oh well, hopefully nothing bad happens.

Anyways, I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and New Years!!!

flying high over yonder

Tonight is a good night just to sit back and chill. Things have been going pretty good lately, despite being relatively jobless. I guess this is what I would do with myself I could, do nothing all day long. But that isn't going to last long. Job search will be commencing soon. Also, I went back to the Community College today and finished my re-enrollment process. I'll be going onto the website within the next few days to register and sign up for a date and time to choose my classes. Looks like I'll be starting slow and retaking some classes over again. Probably Political Science 120 and possibly Sociology 120. And I also marked my major is Computer Programming, so that is where my focus will go towards in the future.

Hawaii was good. Very beautiful and a great place to relax, and also go on some adventures. Pics tomorrow, I PROMISE.

My birthday is coming up. The 17th to be exact. =)

Hawaii

To those of you who don't know, I'm in Hawaii right now with my family. Its very nice and we are all having a wonderful time. Also, I quit my job at B&N so I could come on this trip. Probably a bad call on my part...but I was not enjoying that job anymore as it is. I had this trip approved by my old manager and then she left the company, and my new manager told me I could not go on the trip because of the company holiday vacation blackout period. Yeah, it sucks...I was going to just not go, but then I figured I could quit and enjoy the vacation and the holiday season.
Anyways, I'm having a really good time and I'm taking lots of pictures. I'll write more about the trip when I get home on Tuesday. I hope you're all doing ok and those of you with finals going on are not freaking out too much. Good luck with all that, and have a great day.

fun night

So yesterday was my little baby sister's 18th birthday! I'm so old! Last night we went out to dinner at Corvette Diner, and that place is always fun! It's like a big 50's diner and all the waitresses are really loud and dressed in 50's clothes and they sing and dance and when they come to your table they throw straws at everyone and they also yell at anyone who is using a cell phone. There was a table close to us where they got yelled at TWICE because 2 different guys were caught using their cell phones. The 2nd time our waitress went over and grabbed the guy's phone and was like, "Hi, he's at Corvette Diner right now enjoying dinner, he'll have to call you later!" It was funny! But then later on I noticed the manager was at their table and I guess they were trying to complain...but the manager was basically like, "Too bad, that's what we do here if you don't like it, don't eat here and use your cell phone while you're eating." I thought that was cool. A manager actually growing some balls and telling a customer to fuck off basically. Anyways,
Here's a picture of the pretty house across the street again

Here's my sisters Jenny and Kelly, and then Kelly's boyfriend, Kamron.

Cool Bazooka sign at the restaurant. They throw a bunch of Bazooka gum on your table when they bring you the bill.

That's my cousin Andy, and Jenny again.

Kelly letting our waitress put straws in her hair.

Kelly and Kamron. Straw hair is complete.

Kelly again.

My mom and dad.

Back at home, Kelly's birthday cookie cake! YUM!

And of course, two pictures of Ocho.

Tomorrow morning we're leaving for our trip to Hawaii. I'll probably have internet access while I'm there, but I doubt I'll be on to post in here...maybe to check my email or something. But once I get back I'll definitely post about my trip and post pictures!

perfect dream

You go to see a movie in your dream, and they give you two sodas instead of one. You sit down to get comfortable and within minutes some random girl sits down next to you and puts her head on your shoulder. Who the fuck is she? I don't know...but mid movie she starts grabbing your junk. Next thing you know you're back at home fucking the shit out of a perfect stranger. Too bad it doesn't happen like that in real life.

Well ok maybe for some people it does.
I have weird dreams.

=/

epic lulz

So I guess Greenpeace is having an online poll to name some stupid whale.
Over 11,000 names were submitted and they narrowed it down to what they thought were the 30 best names.
Most of them are retarded, such as Aiko ('little love' in Japanese), Libertad ('freedom' in Spanish), and Shanti ('peace' in Hindi)...but the only obvious real choice on the list is to vote for Mister Splashy Pants.
Thanks to OT, and I'm sure a handful of other interweb message boards, I'm proud to report that Mister Splashy Pants is currently leading with 64% of the votes!

So click on the link here and vote for Mister Splashy Pants!!!

http://www.greenpeace.org/international/campaigns/oceans/whaling/great-whale-trail/gwt-vote?utm_sour
